Never too old to dream- Meet Kenyan, 77, turning her travel dreams into reality
The adage ‘age ain’t nothing but a number’ has been used widely to express different sentiments, but for one Hannah Gathoni this old saying is literally a reflection of her current self. Being a first born in a family of 16 children, Hannah learned responsibility from a tender age as she helped her mother take care of her 15 siblings. Education was a luxury for her big family hence she managed to up to class two.
The ever hard working 77 year old mother of four adults lived her life moving from town to town selling vegetables in the markets to support her family for 40 years of her life. That life as a market seller was no walk in the park. Hannah recalls the several occasions she would hawk her products in the CBD with her then 4 year old daughter at night.
“I would go to Marikiti to buy my vegetables and sell them along the streets in the evening. The cat and mouse games with the city council askaris were a nightmare and I recall being arrested at least 6 times. Once, I spend a night at the Pangani police cell”, recalls Hannah.
In 2000, Hannah’s husband passed on which left her to solely fend for her family. She continued to work in the market in Naivasha doing what she knew best.
My turning point
One day on a Thursday of 2015, my daughter Jane who then worked as a senior manager at a leading cement company called me so excited to tell me she had found something that would change our lives completely and this was the beginning of an unimaginable life that I would start living at the age of 75. I could not fathom how joining a travel club would change my life but I trusted my daughter so I travelled to Nairobi with a friend to hear her out.
One year down the line, my life has taken a turn around all thanks to WorldVentures. I had never in my wildest imagination thought of a life beyond my Naivasha home leave alone Kenya. For the short time I have been a member of DreamTrips, I have been to over six holidays from Malindi where I got a chance to swim for the first time ever in my life. Enashipai in Naivasha is so near my home yet I had never stepped foot in there. If you thought adrenaline rush is experience for the young only then you are dead wrong. Hannah has done zip lining twice in South Africa and has been on a roller coaster ride in Orlando Florida.
Despite not understanding English, You will find Hannah in all WorldVentures trainings both local and international. “I always sit with someone to translate for me but I feel so much satisfied to experience the joy that the club enables people to share” adds Hannah
Hannah is the oldest member of the club in Kenya yet she puts in so much work and effort to share the club benefits with anyone she comes across. “ I spend my days sharing the blessings that this club has been to me and encouraging the young people to give their parents an opportunity to experience this club just as my daughter did with me”, says Hannah

As documented by Yannick van den Bos
Back in 2005, Mike Azcue and Wayne Nugent started World Ventures (an internet travel company /agency) for all home-based travel agents.
The company has a customized app PowerSearch, which can be used to search over 200 travel websites in a single click and you get the best deal. The company pays commission to its agents for recommending resources to potential customers.
Is World Ventures A Pyramid Scheme?
World Ventures is a Texas-based network marketing company (also called MLM). First off all, we should not confuse a network marketing company with a “pyramid scheme”.
Actually, a Ponzi/Pyramid scheme is where a company makes use of its new reps so as to make payments (profits/returns/dividends) to its old reps. In other words, it is a kind of company paying for hiring new Reps, and offers flimsy products or no products at all, even if it has products, they are of no real value.
In this scenario, if you look at World Ventures, you will come to know that the company pays no commissions for hiring new Reps. Commission is paid only when products are sold.
Another fact that proves that World Ventures is not a pyramid scheme is that the company is in business for more than 6 years, and has its offices in 21 countries. In addition, the company complies with all local, state and federal laws. In short, it may not be for all of you, but it is a lot better than gambling.
