Raging Lang’ata fire left four dead,thousands homeless

A huge fire that broke in Lang’ata kijiji settlement on Sunday night claimed the lives of four leaving many homeless.

The bodies were recovered on Monday morning,according to the National Disaster Management Unit Deputy Director Pius Masai.

The fire that burnt for hours could not be contained at first as fire fighters could not settle because of  poor road network.

Delays to put the fire out were further caused by bureaucracy followed by military fire fighters as they took long to respond.

According to the area MP Nelson Korir, the fire engines responded on time but there was no water to combat fire.

The fire  destroyed two thirds of the village leaving thousands homeless.

The affected are currently sheltering at Ngei Primary in South lands estate as they wait to receive humanitarian assistance.

According to residents, the fire began at 8pm and spread fast, sweeping almost the entire village.

Several houses, shops and entertainment joints were reduced to ashes in the congested neighborhood.
