Data4Change set for  Nairobi from 30 May to 2 June

DATA4CHANGE will be in Nairobi from 30 May to 2 June. To mark the event, we are hosting a special HHNBO edition this month with several of the top-notch visual storytellers who will be attending the DATA4CHANGE event.

DATA4CHANGE helps Civil Society Organisations create powerful data-driven advocacy projects by connecting them with global and local experts in data, design, tech and journalism to forge real change.

We will be keeping with the theme for DATA4CHANGE #NumbersandNarratives, How Data Storytelling is Transforming Decision Making. There will be a Panel discussion on the topic moderated by Ron Nixon the investigations editor at The Associated Press. He will be joined by Mahadia Tinga of dLab/ Tanzania Data Lab, Christine Zhang a data journalism from the Baltimore Sun and Dickens Olewe, a journalist with the BBC Africa Desk.

At Data4Change there will be Ignite Talks

The participants include:

1. Chris Canipe from Axios who will tell us how he parsed 30 years of shapefiles from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to create a timeline of hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean in his Thirty Years of Atlantic Hurricanes story project.

2. Emmanuel Evance,who will present  Takwimu a platform that provides actionable insights for African changemakers. Takwimu provides quality insights and data-driven analysis on Human Development Indicators across 10 African countries.

3. Genevieve Hoffman from Topos, Inc will talk about what it means to think about cities without being constrained by traditional notions of distance, boundaries, and demographics.

4. Nomzamo Majuqwana, Wolff Olins,on “Girl Effect”. The metamorphosis of Girl Effect, from generic girls rights advocacy group to a creative social business using media and mobile tech to empower young people, and particularly girls, to transform their lives
