KIMC to open campuses in Kenyan counties
The Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) will soon spread wings to the counties.
Information, Communications and Technology Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has says the institution will start opening campuses in counties across the country.
Mr Mucheru who visited the institution recently said the Government is committed to expanding the media industry so as to provide employment opportunities to the growing number of youths.
He observed that capacity building of media professionals will be undertaken in partnership with private sector players.
“Given the expansion of media industry arising from the successful digital migration and increased frequencies, Kenya needs qualified professionals in the media and communication sector so as to make it a media hub in the region,” said Mucheru when he made his maiden tour to KIMC.
KIMC is a Government owned training institution, specialising in Mass Communication, Journalism, Telecommunications and Film courses . The institution is credited for producing top media personalities in the country – the pacesetters in media and communication sector.
KIMC Director Hiram Mucheke said the institution has partnered with the University of Nairobi to offer undergraduate courses on TV and Radio production
Mr Mucheke said KIMC has plans to launch a TV station and become a digital broadcaster and content provider especially in film production, which the institution prides itself in being the best in the country.
Mr Mucheru was accompanied by Principal Secretaries Broadcast and Telecommunication Samuel Itemere and ICT and Innovation, Victor Kyalo. The event was attended by Institute’s Board Chair Prof Chacha Nyaigoti Chacha and other members.
