Without an IEBC media accreditation, no journalist was allowed to enter the polling stations and tallying centers during  2017 General Elections in Kenya on August 8 . Earlier the IEBC had stated that media can apply for accredition for election reporting from June 2, 2017. Those who had not received the accredation by then were required to find an update on the IEBC website that suggested it would be best to send them an email to info@iebc.or.ke.

All applicants were to show proof of registration with the Media Council of Kenya in order to successfully apply for accreditation, as stated on the IEBC website.

By June, 1,500 applications for coverage of the August 8 General Elections had been received by IEBC.

Applicants were to receive an email by 12 July with a link where they will be required to fill in a few details and upload a facial photo. An accreditation card was then to be printed and sent to the nearest IEBC office in any town the applicant chooses. Each applicantwas to receive a notification by 20th August.
